Voices In The Dark tells the story of sixteen year-old Anselm Andros and his family. The Imperial Order is coming closer to Malonia, the place where they live, and they are forced to move west. Anselm's grandmother's house burns to the ground because the Imperial Order is looking for Aldebaran's last prophecy. Maria, Anselm's mother, has her third child while all of this going on. They have nowhere to go now because they have no home. Once they move west, they go to Holy Island, and find a new home with the five thousand crowns that Anselm has collected from Jared Wright, his mother's former fiancée, when they were younger. Living in a time like this must have been very difficult. What would you do if you were them?

Opinion:

I thought that this book was very interesting. The time that they live in, I imagine, was a very rough time, especially with his mother getting ready to have her third child while all of this is going on. Anselm took very good care of his mother Maria, and Jasmine, his sister. I couldn't imagine living in a time like that!
