Tutored by Allison Whittenberg is about the relationship between Wendy Anderson and Hakiam Powell. Wendy is an African-American girl who grew up in an all white suburb in Philadelphia. She has always felt as if she was the "only chip in the cookie." Hakiam is an African-American boy who is from the "ghetto," as Wendys father would say. He grew up living rough in Cincinnati and has come to Philadelphia to make a fresh start. He lives with his cousin and helps take care of her premature daughter. Wendy meets Hakiam when she volunteers at a community center, tutoring. Hakiams cousin and Wendys father do not approve of their relationship. Hakiams cousin does not want Wendy around her baby, Malikia. One night after a double date with Wendy and some of her friends, Hakiam comes home to find Malikia in trouble. Will Malikia be okay? Will Wendy and Hakiam's relationship last?

Opinion:

This is a realistic romance fiction book. I really enjoyed this book. I liked it so much that I read it all the day it arrived in the mail. I really liked the plot and details. It was like I knew who Hakiam and Wendy were. You really got to go inside their heads because the book was written in third person. This was my first time reading a book where the main characters were African-American. I think anyone who enjoys realistic fiction would like this book. I loved this book. It is now one of my favorites so far.
