LitPick Review
"Sweet Treats and Secret Crushes" by Lisa Greenwald is about three girls named Olivia, Georgia, and Kate, and they've all been best friends ever since they moved to the same apartment building in Brooklyn. Lately, though, things have been different between this trio. Kate is always gossiping, Georgia won't speak her mind, and both girls are waiting for Olivia to take action instead of being an observer, mainly when it comes to Olivia's big crush. On Valentine's Day, there is a big blizzard, causing a snow day and leaving three girls with nothing to do. So they decided to make and hand out delicious homemade fortune cookies. Will this be enough to save the girls' friendship?
Opinion:
When I read this book, I could picture the setting if I closed my eyes. I could picture the apartment rooms and the lobby, for example. I felt like I was actually there, watching the story unfold before my very eyes. I think the "voice" of this book was very appropriate. The author wrote in first-person narration, and each chapter was from a different person's point of view! I like how Ms. Greenwald did that. My overall reaction of the book was that it was pretty good. I really like how Ms. Greenwald ended the book. I would explain why, but that would involve giving the ending away!
