LitPick Review
Julia and Eliza are best friends and playmates until Julia turns thirteen and decides it's time to grow up. Until then they had spent most of their time playing kid games like making paper dolls, giving one another make overs, dressing up, and playing make believe. Everything changes when Julia gets a crush on the school bully. Suddenly she doesn't want to hang out with Eliza anymore. She also starts to wonder if she is pretty enough and constantly compares herself to every model or beautiful girl she sees. Eventually, Julia remembers what a good friend Eliza is and understands it's okay just to be yourself.
Opinion:
I usually prefer action books, but I am glad I took a chance on this one. The author did a great job of writing about the ups and downs of friendship. I think the main message in this story is that you don't have to change who you really are in order to grow up. It also shows that you don't have to be perfect to be beautiful. How you feel about yourself and the choices you make are more important than what other people think. I hope other readers are also reminded how important it is to be loyal and trustworthy to yourself and your real friends.
