Summer & Shiner is a book about a boy named Carley, his blood brothers for life named Troop, Carley's pet Shiner, and their adventures during one summer . Carley is the president of the mustangs, the club that gets together for group activities and initiation ceremonies throughout the book. One night Carley and Troop go to the jail to see a man named Luke Webster who is very crazy. Because of the visit, Carley and Troop meet and rescue Shiner, the best pet ever, who happens to be a racoon. Carley and Shiner go through quite a lot of adventures together, including surviving a flood, rescuing a dog, and accidentally destroying a pie stand. Shiner once fights a dog and wins, but the dog doesn't die. But Shiner also has somewhat of a bad side, because he will bite anyone he doesn't trust, which makes him dangerous at times.

Opinion:

I think the author did do a good job of giving young adults a wholesome and interesting story to read. The writing in this book flows well and touches you at times, and is very appropriate for ages seven and up in my opinion. Also there are no weaknesses and a strength being that the plot just makes sense and develops a great story. In all I really think the book was great. There are some sad parts, and some interesting parts, and some just enjoyable parts. I would recommend this to my friends who are into animals and natural things.
