Terry, a brave 12-year old outdoorsman, was by the ruins of Huntsman Cottage in the middle of Crow Wood. As it was getting dark, a goshawk soared past him. He was mesmerized by the bird and started to follow it. He ended up in the old cottage. Terry spied a small black bag and picked it up. A small gold ring started spinning behind him. A voice came out of nowhere and told him that in the bag there was one stone, there were six more to be found, and he must find them to return home. He was sucked through the center of the ring, and found himself in a new world, with new people, new places, and new things. The rest of the book is about his quest to find the other six stones. (There are two other books in this series coming out; he does not find all of the stones in this book.)

Opinion:

This book had everything a fiction book should have: realistic characters, vivid description, and exceptional cliffhangers. The characters were so realistic that I could think of a person in the real world just like them! Each one had real-life traits, making them authentic. I could see every scene in the book in my head, down to the fine details of the setting, the clothes being worn, and the mood that was being set. Cliffhangers placed carefully at the ends of each chapter beg you to read more, and since this is the first of a trilogy, the cliffhanger at the end of the book makes me want to know what will happen in the next book. I found myself wanting to keep reading chapter after chapter until the very end. This is the ideal book for an intriguing read.
