Best friends Gene and Phineas are completely different. Gene is smart, while Phineas is athletic with a very outgoing personality. During a time when war is one everyones mind, Phineas is able to distract Gene and his other friends at Devon, a boarding school for boys, from the war. They become isolated at Devon, never being exposed to what is really going on around them. Soon, when they are seniors they face the knowledge that they will have to go to war soon and reality comes rushing right at them, and some are not ready to face it.

Opinion:

I really liked this book, although it was dry, and anyone younger than a teenager would not get the full understanding of the story. Some of the parts moved slowly, but the entire book had great description. I also thought the title fit the book very well and added to the meaning and message of the book.
