Rascal: A Dog and his Boy by Ken Wells is a story about a dog who wants a boy. Rascal is a beagle pup who lives on Nonc Noon's farm. He lost his mother because she chased a sugarcane truck. This little dog finds the perfect owner one day, the boy's name is Meely. They loved to hunt in the woods together most afternoons, but one morning Meely gets his leg stuck in a wooden bridge. It's all up to Rascal to get some help; will he save him in time?

Opinion:

Ken Wells definitely writes a story that makes you feel like you are a part of the book. You cou could picture the setting if you closed your eyes. He wraps up subplots really well and never left me wondering very much after I finished the book. The end of this book was very moving and a wonderful finish. Even though it wasn't my favorite, Wells writes a great fantasy that will appeal to many kids, especially those who are dog lovers.
