LitPick Review
"Pirouette: Ballet Stories" by Harriet Castor is a collection of fifteen short stories about ballet. While some underlying themes are similar, the stories themselves, the characters and plot events are different. The ages of the dancers vary, as do the genders. Also, most stories take place in different nations. By the end of the book, readers will have learned a few ballet terms.
Opinion:
This book gives an inside glimpse at the life of ballet. From dedication to sweating it out to make your leg reach the ceiling to competing over roles to falling in love with other dancers to making friends, this book has it all. The depth of the characters is unmatched, and the lessons learned along the way are breathtakingly beautiful. Not every reader will be thrust into a ballet academy, but, for a couple of hours, they will feel like have.
