LitPick Review
Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes. By Jonathan Auxier. This story is set in two different worlds. One is a world of fantasy, filled with talking animals, vanishing kingdoms, magic eyes and the belief that all things mechanical- locks, clocks, and crossbows, are magical. The other world is one of science, reason, and the belief that the fantasy world is nothing but a fairytale. Peter Nimble, a blind master thief, starts his career thieving in the world of reason, after being found floating in the ocean without parents or eyes, he is whisked away from his miserable life by a traveling Haberdashers box of magical eyes, (stolen by Peter himself) to the world of fantasy. In the world of fantasy he meets a loyal friend, and starts on his adventures of deserts, crows and giant dogfish.
Opinion:
Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, was a bit of a hard read for me, it is geared for the younger ages of 8-12, and while its excellently written with plenty of humor, I found myself guessing the next plot twist several chapters before it happened, Although it was a good story, I was disappointed that I could guess the events before they happened. The characters however, were hilarious. They had personality and motive for what they did and how they acted. I think the believable characters was my favorite part of the book. I think the main theme of the book is about Peter finding out who he is, and that he has the strength he needs to complete the task set before him. All in all, this is a fairly good book and I am glad I read it.
