This book starts three years after the second. The beginning scene is the funeral of Holburn, Beka's fiance. The scene reveals that Beka feels guilt over his death because she no longer loved him and could not grieve. Later that same night, her lord comes to her door and summons her, Achoo, and Pounce on a Hunt. She meets up with her partner Turnstall, her lord, and a kennel mage by the name of Farmer Cape. They learn that they are on orders from the King himself because the prince, heir to the throne, has been kidnapped!!! Beka, Turnstall, and Farmer Cape follow the trail and later meet up with the lady Knight Sabine. During their Hunt, Beka must face loss and death, betrayal and treason, and hope and love.

Opinion:

I truly enjoyed this book and loved that I could review it. I would share this book with any fan of Tamora Pierce. I was slightly upset at first that three years had passed and she had been engaged but I came to accept and realize that the book wouldnt have been the same without that beginning. I felt that this book was very interesting and I am truly glad that she added a love twist to the book. One thing I did not expect though was that she added a huge, stomach dropping twist to the story towards the end. I have always loved Tamora Pierce's writing and this book was just another great masterpiece of hers. Something though, that I was not happy about with the book was the lack of known characters. Many of the well-liked characters were not involved as much due to the fact that the setting was different from the other. Overall thought, I truly recommend this series and book.
