LitPick Review
Mad Love was about a girl named Alice, daughter of novel writer and Queen of Romance, Belinda Amorous. Her life was perfect, except for her mom's weird mood swings. Paying bills, book signing, watching Skateboard Boy ride by every day, and lying to her peers became a daily routine; but when she gets a letter from her mom's publisher that threatens all she knows, Alice knows she has to take one more responsibility from her mom: writing her next romance novel. Then, to throw a wrench or two into everything, a strange boy shows up, claiming he's Cupid, and commands that Alice is to write his love story the way it really happened. As Alice starts to hear voices in her head and see things she can't explain, she has to decide whether she's going down the path of her mother, or Errol is for real.
Opinion:
Alice was a great character; in fact, all the characters were great. They all flowed (and clashed) when they needed to, and I found myself very engrossed with them. The idea was very unique and was executed well. Tons of emotions were put into the book, and you feel every one of them as if you were really there. The only complaint that I have about the book was that they brought Alice's mother's bipolar disorder in too much. Too many pages were dedicated to Alice's self-doubt of her own sanity and her doubt of her mother's ability to recover. I know that it was a big part of the plot, but I would have liked to have focused more on Cupid and his love story with Psyche.
