Solange Drake isn't a vampire yet, but she will be soon. Once she turns sixteen her life will change forever, literally. As the only female "born" vampire in hundreds of years she is the target of every single male vampire in the world. Solange doesn't know if she can handle being famous and maybe even all powerful. Without her one and only friend Lucy who happens to be human, Solange would be lost in a world she is not yet comfortable in joining. All of her many brothers especially Nicholas have sworn to protect her, but that's no fun when your out trying to meet normal, non-vampire boys. In the first of the Drake Chronicles, Solange must save her family from an evil vampire ruler, and through it all try to figure out what is going on between her brother Nicholas and her best friend Lucy. This dark romantic adventure, explores the roots of friendship and the strength it takes to be who you really are.

Opinion:

Alyxandra Harvey, the author of Hearts at Stake paints a world inside today's world. One where vampires coexist with humans and are actually humans until they turn sixteen. Harvey not only gives the reader a sense of realism but also creates witty characters who you immediately fall in love with for their strength and compassion. This book is told from two points of view. Which gives the reader different ways to look at each aspect of the story. The story goes back and forth between Solange and Lucy. Although they are best friends, they see life with opposite perspectives. Overall this book was a rapid page turner, I couldn't put it down. I usually don't like to read about vampires because some aspects seem too unrealistic, but this book was different. I saw how Solange and her family lived in our world and read about all the troubles they had keeping their identity and it made sense. I would definitely recommend this to anyone because it was just one of those really fantastic reads that you have to tell everyone about.
