LitPick Review
After her father, sister and brother die in an unexpected plane crash, twelve- year-old Daralyn [Dolly] Oakland's life is turned completely upside-down. Everything around her is changing and there is absolutely nothing she can do to stop it. Her once-happy mother has now turned into an angry, grieving woman that Daralyn doesn't even know. Her favorite aunt, Aunt Jessie, has begun dating a new man . . . and Daralyn does not have a good feeling about him. This extremely captivating fiction read tells the dramatic story of a twelve-year-old getting through difficult times and shows sometimes how strong people can really be.
Opinion:
In my opinion, Grounded by Kate Klise, was a nicely written book with many twists and turns. It was tremendously engrossing, so much so that I could barely get myself to put it down. Throughout the story, I found that I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out what would happen next. Kate Klise has a unique writing style, one that is not entirely my favorite because of the lack of feelings from the characters when something wonderful or terrible happens. I wanted the characters to show their feelings more. Despite this fault, the author has the wonderful ability to make this book very appealing. For most part, I immensely enjoyed this book and suggest it to most pre-teen readers.
