Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! is a clever compilation of monologues. Librarian Laura Amy Schlitz wrote each short story for the students of Park School to act out. She created several different characters to represent the different classes and rankings in medieval days. This book teaches you a lot about the brutality of medieval times. For instance, one story is about a girl whose parents tried to drown her when she was an infant because they couldn't support any more children. I would say this book falls into the coming-of-age/growing-up genre. This is not your average, everyday book; it shares interesting perspectives on life and how life was (and is) valued.

Opinion:

Every character had a story to share, a secret. The voice in this book was strong; each short story was a poem. The children in the story range in age and background, which I thought added quite a bit to the creativity of the book. I really felt a connection to most of the characters, and that is an important aspect to involve the reader. Overall, I thought this was an excellent children's book and an excellent book for everyone!
