LitPick Review
Black Boy White School by Brian F. Walker is about Anthony (Ant) Jones being offered a different perspective on life. Ant's life starts in the hood of East Cleveland where he gets a scholarship to attend Belton Academy. Hesitant at first Ant doesn't want to leave his stomping grounds but soon he finds his way into a world he doesn't know. In this new environment he gets a different education than the one promised to him. He sees and hears the looks and whispers people give him. The way they seem so scared. Soon he conforms and forms a different Anthony, (Tony), the boy who agrees with everyone, who is happy with everyone. But is he happy with himself? And will he ever be the same again?
Opinion:
I have to say this was a very well-written book. The way the story is developed is great. The setting is described well. I can visualize Anthony stepping into Belton Academy accosted by the foreign ideas and actions. It is also realistic, talking about a problem that sadly still goes on to this very day. This book definitely raises question that arent exactly easy to answer. What I can't agree with is how much cussing there was in the dialogue. All in all the book definitely ropes a reader in and leaves questions in the mind.
