This is a story of short vignettes about James Herriot's life as a veterinarian. A large majority of the stories include animals and how Herriot takes care of them. There are 67 vignettes in total.

Opinion: 

The book is quite a long read and describes each scene very thoroughly. Some are funny others are sad, but I enjoyed every one.
