Edward the Egg: A Different Kind of Brave by Julia Fagundus is a cute story. It’s great for beginner readers who are eager to start chapter books. This book can be read independently or aloud with a grownup.
Edward the Egg wants to make his family’s famous cheese biscuits. However, going to the grocery store for the ingredients is scary for Edward because he knows the shoppers might want to buy him and eat him. He comes up with a plan to avoid being eaten, but while he’s at the grocery store, things don’t go as planned. He must decide how he’s going to handle the unexpected obstacles that come his way.
Edward is faced with many situations where he must decide to do what is right even when he’s scared of what could happen to him. This story shows how we should not allow fear to drive us; instead, we should be driven by caring for those around us and bravely stepping out in faith.
Opinion:
This book lends itself very nicely to discussions with parents and teachers about what it means to be brave, kind, wise, and determined.
Kindness can come from unexpected places. This story shows that kindness has a ripple effect and that we should all do our part to care for those around us and show them the same kindness we desire.
Edward the Egg: A Different Kind of Brave features coloring pages at the end of each chapter. On the back of each coloring page is also a blank sheet for readers to create their own picture of what they imagined during the chapter. It’s a great way to engage young readers and asses their comprehension.
Edward the Egg: A Different Kind of Brave shows us the importance of being kind, even in tough situations.
