LitPick Review
Girl Meets Boy is a collection of short stories dealing with the topic of perception. Each story has a pair, one from the girl's point of view and one from the guy's. The plot of each story doesn't focus on one character being better than the other, and each one deals with a wide range of problems such as race separation, desperation, and smaller things like just a difference of height, all of which show what can bring two people together, or in some cases apart. The fact that each story was written by a different author also changes some aspects of the book. One such change is writing styles, since not every author writes exactly the same way. This allows you to get not just a different opinion and perception from each character but a whole different type of opinion too. Each character gives you a rundown of what happened and tells you what he or she thinks about it. The characters aren't necessarily explaining the same event, which makes it even more interesting to read and lets you know what happened as a result of whatever event the other character was explaining.
Opinion:
This book was exciting and every story introduced something new. Every time I started a new story I knew I would be getting a different experience. Since every story does have two sides, there was no repetitiveness and each story was different from its companion. When I first started reading the book I was worried that I would be reading the same story over again when I read the partner, which couldn't be farther from the truth. This is defiantly geared towards the young adult crowd, and it is not something I would recommend to anyone younger, but for any of my older friends this book may be perfect. From a reader's point of view, I felt that the stories could at times be confusing to read and sometimes difficult to understand. Besides that, there weren't any real complaints I had about the book. Mostly it was a nice insight as to how a boy views the world as opposed to a girl.
