Lucy Day was normal. She was cool. She had friends. She had everything you could want out of life until the night of her first date. The night she was cornered, chased. The night she died. Its as simple as that; she died. And yet she can move, breathe, interact, and she didn't even go to the hospital. Her parents may be more over-protective now, but all in all, Lucy survived. Or did she? Lucy is starting to question what she is, why she keeps dreaming of a grey beach, why shes being stalked by a glowing man in a lab coat, and what to do if she really did die.

Opinion:

I just adored this novel! Each element worked together so completely: the suspense; the mystery; even the romance. The way each event tied together was incredible. It all felt so real; the way everyone talked, the simple everyday actions, and even the emotions felt by Lucy. Not to mention, the characters were so carefully developed I felt like I could interact with them myself, even if they were small and rarely made a second appearance. Of all the characters, though, I have to say my favorite is Lucy herself. The love she feels for her crush, friends, and even parents is just so real. This is something that, though it would be film-worthy, a movie just couldn't capture to the fullest. I do believe the storyline was thoroughly written and that Johnson took plenty of time in writing this, as I did in reading it. However, if I could make any changes to this, I would shift in perspectives every now and then. I feel it would be interesting to see how characters like Morgan and Zack dealt with the conflicts. Other than that, I truly enjoyed this story and will be looking for more work by B.C Johnson.
