LitPick Review
Moses Thomas lives in the town of Wilmington. He just got out of school and can't wait to have summer fun. Unfortunately, not everything is easy in that town in the year of 1898. Racism blocks Moses from having fun and his best friend is growing apart from him. He usually is a well-behaved boy, but he does get in trouble with the law and has to work at a plantation to pay off a ticket. Moses has to endure this and more, including the Wilmington Massacre of 1898.
Opinion:
To be truthful, before I read this book, I had never heard of the Wilmington Massacre. This book explains it well from a kid's perspective. I was thoroughly satisfied when I finished it. The hero reminds me of Klaus from THE SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS. He too is a very smart boy that has to go through many troubles in his early life. I recommend it to anyone 11 and up.
