Sophie Littlefield's Unforsaken is about a teenage girl who lives with her aunt and young autistic brother. Her small family has just moved into a new town and Halie is trying so hard to fit into her new school and new town. One more thing, Halie is a Healer. A human who has the ability to completely heal another living thing. She lost her mother in a terrible accident and her father is not much of a father figure. Left without a father and mother Halie is adopted by her aunt Prairie. Prairie who is also a Healer, adopts a young autistic boy, Chubb who is a Seer. A human gifted with the ability to see the future. The three finally find a home where they can feel normal. Things are going great until Halie's friend gets hurt at a party and Halie cannot help but heal her. This creates a string of events that lead to Prairie and Chubb's capture by a man who wants to use their powers for evil. Halie is thrown into a world that she was trying so desperately to escape. She must learn to accept her life is not normal, and that her power is not a curse but a gift.

Opinion:

Littlefield's writing is very interesting. At times her writing is very robotic, and at other times her writing flourishes. There are times when she describes a moment between the characters, that should be intense and draw you in, but the way she decribes it makes the characters seem like they are cold towards each other or they are not really close but extremly distant. Her book can be very boring and mechanical at times, but the storyline is fantastic. I was at the edge of my seat for most of the book. I really enjoyed the characters and story she created. I highly recommend this book. Even though her writing can be very monotoned, she wrote a fabulous book with a very interesting storyline. Her story makes your dreams for super powers that much stronger.
