The story, All the Earth Thrown to the Sky by Joe R. Lansdale, takes place in the 1930's when dust-storms and The Great Depression were major threats to society. Jack Catcher is the main character. His mother dies because dust filled her lungs and causes a dirty pneumonia. On the same day, Jack leaves the hospital after the death of his mother, and he finds his father has committed suicide. Alone with nowhere to go he stays home; one day a girl named Jane and her brother Tyler visit Jack. They came up with a plan to steal a dead neighbor's car and leave Oklahoma. Later, they get involved with the baddest gangsters in Texas. On a quest to save a person's life, they go through many adventures.

Opinion:

I extremely enjoyed the book. It was an adventure after another even the ending was unpredictable. The reader could relate to each character and learn a new way to look at life. For example, one of the characters, Jane, is a confident girl. Every time the characters were in trouble she always found the right words to be helped. Even though the dust-storms destroyed all the schools in Oklahoma, she believes that one day shes going to be a journalist. Her personality is perfect for a journalist; she's wise and full of life. Jack, on the other hand, is very shy and can be negative at times. He doesnt want to be a quitter; therefore, he always reaches forward and tries his best to succeed. There are many morals in the story, such as, no matter what happens enjoy life to the fullest. After everything the characters had to go through, nothing let them down and they enjoyed every moment of their experience. I learned that there are many people in the world who simply want a family and freedom. The book made me realize that sometimes we as people take what we have for granted. We just need to enjoy life and be thankful for what we have.
