Chris Hellandback and his siblings Trisha, Brittany, and Jon are less than thrilled when their father announces they will be spending their summer vacation with their grandmother in Scotland. Upon the childrens arrival, their grandmother takes them on a tour of her home, a former hospital. Each of the children is given a bedroom that has something to do with their personality. When they go to sleep at night, they are pulled into a wild adventure unlike anything they have ever experienced. Chris finds himself in a frozen land with strange creatures, Brittany is transported to medieval England, Jon is propelled into adulthood, and Trisha is thrown into the world of courtship and marriage. The siblings must help each other in order to overcome their strange circumstances, and each of them learn a lesson they will never forget.

Opinion:

The Hellandback Kids, by L.L. Helland, is a unique book unlike any I have ever read. The plot contains many twists and turns, but was often too fantastic for me to be able to follow it. The bizarre tale follows each of the children on their own wild adventure, which was at times ridiculous and unfathomable. The language level was geared towards younger children, but some of the content was too mature for its intended audience. I would not recommend this book to any young readers, or even teens.
