Lou is a thirteen year old Parisian girl with an IQ off the charts and a broken
family. When a school project leads her to discover the world of the homeless
inhabiting Paris, she resolves to do something about it. She befriends a girl
named No, a quiet homeless girl who seems to have lost all hope of ever getting
off the streets. When No moves in with Lou's family and starts to rebuild her life,
No slowly opens up to Lou about her past. But as No's well-being and health start
to take a turn for the worse, Lou has to wonder how much she can do for her.
Opinion:
I enjoyed this book because the main character was an interesting, witty,
and smart person who would have whole chapters devoted to her theories and
beliefs. I enjoyed these chapters because she and I had a lot in common in the
way that we think. I also liked that she had her own problems as well, with her
mother's depression and her and her father's struggle to keep her family
together. No was also an interesting character because she was mysterious and
made you want to know more about her. The story ended kind of suddenly, but it
was wistful and sweet too. I would recommend this book to any of my peers as it
was very inspiring and empowering to teens.
