This book is a non-fiction documentary of the life of Jackie Kennedy Onassis after losing her second husband. Jackie was accused of being hard-hearted, as she wasn't with her second husband when he died, but this book informs you that she experienced hardships trying to get over her grief. When a friend suggested that she try to be an editor, Jackie was a bit doubtful. After all, her late husband Ari Onassis had stated imperiously to her, "A Greek wife does not work." But she decided to give it a try. The publishing company Viking accepted her as an editor, though at first they weren't sure about her skills. She overcame their doubts, however, and was acknowledged as a smart editor. After an argument and a secret agreement to publish a book that insulted Jackie's previous husband, Jackie quits her work at Viking and begins work at Doubleday, another much bigger publishing house. Her life was very different than what it was assumed to be by the public and press. Her life was... normal. This book corrects the misunderstandings and informs you about the life of Jackie Kennedy.
Opinion:
This book was definitely meant for informational purposes rather than entertainment. It was a well-researched book, but the writing style was dull and dry. I had to push myself very, VERY hard to finish the book. I would not recommend it for kids unless they are completing a research project, and only then as a reference and not as a book that is read chapter by chapter. There was no plot, and no story. It was just quoting, referencing and informing you on the events and everyday life of Jackie Kennedy. I learned quite a bit from the book, but as there was so much information is was too much to remember. I dont recall many characters mentioned in the book, mainly because there were so many characters appearing and disappearing. The main characters were mentioned multiple times but never described in detail. There wasnt really a voice of the book, or at least not a tone, just a monotone narration. The only feeling I could gather was that Jackie was a misunderstood person after the death of her second husband. Overall, I disliked almost everything about this book.
