Max is a Shadowblade, which is a magical creature that can only come out at night. She was once human with a life and a family, but a former friend, a witch, transformed her. But now that the Guardians, overseers of the magical world, have declared war on all humans, Max must put aside her anger in order to save her human family. Her journey will include magic, good and bad, love, and battles galore, but will she reach her family before some other creature does?

Opinion:

This book was really good, I really liked the whole plot. I am not the type of person who likes reading books out of order, and this one doesn't sound like the first one in the series (I can't tell), but it does a really good job of explaining what happened previously so I didn't feel left out at all. The characters were very descriptive and they each had a unique voice, which is a hard thing to put in a book. It made it easy to tell who was talking and when. However, there were many things I did not like about this book. Had this been made into a movie, it would be rated R for extreme sexual content, foul language, and very descriptive bloody battle scenes--there were some parts where I had to put the book down, or skip a few pages because I couldn't handle the stuff. I don't think I would recommend this to my friends only because they are against this kind of stuff. This book is intended for a mature audience.
