LitPick Review
The "Fizzy Whiz Kid" by Maiya Williams is a realistic fiction novel. In the book, the main character, Mitch Mathis, moves to a new school in Hollywood, California. There he makes new friends. They are Skywalker, named after Luke Skywalker, from his dad's favorite movie. Dash, who is good at writing lyrics and wants to start a band one day. Brandon, a kid that just plays video games all day. J.J., a girl named after her fathers two best clients, Julia and Jodie. And Tangie, a girl who is quite mysterious in nature. unfortunately for Mitch, he doesn't know a lot about movies, T.V. or anything of the sort. this is a problem because in Hollywood, everybody knows about making T.V. shows and movies. So when a lunch conversation gets too sophisticated for Mitch, his friends decide they need to do something about this. Skywalker invites Mitch over to his house to watch the Star Wars movies, which Mitch has never seen. Dash thinks Mitch should sign up for a talent search. He writes Mitch a resume and they go to the talent search. There, he gets asked to audition for a part in a Fizzywhiz soda commercial. At the audition, Mitch lands the part of the Fizzywhiz Kid! The author's purpose for this book is to entertain you.
Opinion:
On a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, I would give the book The FizzyWhiz Kid, by Maiya Williams, a 6.2. I give it this rating because the story was not original. I have heard the story where a kid moves to a new school countless times. Boy gets made fun of, boy becomes popular, his popularity turns on him, he apologizes to his friends for being a jerk, and is just a normal person again. However, this book also had its strong points. I learned many things about making a commercial that I didnt know before reading this book. Also this book had a nice description of the main characters. I also enjoyed the small jokes that were thrown into the writing here and there. This book was not much of a challenge for me, so I would recommend it, just as a quick read.
