This book is a nonfiction narrative of American history. The book summarizes the major events in United States history, starting in the era before Columbus and going up to Obama's inauguration. However, it is also humorous and satirical. Numerous historical people and events are discussed and often made fun of. There are eleven chapters, each addressing a different period of United States history. Every chapter contains pictures, sidebars, footnotes, an end-of-the-chapter quizz, and summaries of more minor events not discussed in the main text. Very little is taken completely seriously, but there is still lots of factual information. There is also a table of contents and an index with major people and events listed.
Opinion:
This book was very informative and entertaining. It is a narrative of United States history, not a normal textbook, so it was easy to read while still containing lots of information. The pictures, footnotes, and sidebars added extra interesting facts, such as the truth behind common myths and stories. The book was funny without being too over-the-top or annoying. This book's target audience is people in middle or high school who enjoy history, though not necessarily history class. I highly recommend it and would read other books by this author.
