LitPick Review
After the Depression, Mary Baliss and her brother Leo played tricks on the nuns. Mary Baliss had her birthday and her brother got her a boat. One day they took the boat out on the lake and while Leo was swimming back he drowned in an unexpected storm and Mary Baliss broke her back and neck when she fell on pointed rocks. Now her father has volunteered to take two girls, Gwen and Isabel that are sisters, until they find a permanent home for them. Baliss isn't so happy about them staying in the first place and now they are staying in Leo's old room so they have to pack up Leo's belongings and put them away. Will they ever be accepted?
Opinion:
Personally, I thought this book was very boring and I just couldn't get into reading it at all. I felt that even though Leo dying was very emotional, the author mentioned it too often. Every time I had to read I was not very happy because I didn't like the book.
