Sam Davis only had one dream his whole life: to go to school like a normal boy. The only "friend" he has is Winston Churchill. He was told about Winston countless times by his attendant Miss Perkins, and Sam began hearing Winnie's voice in his head. Sam knew all about Stirling Junior High because every day, he watched from across the street. He has a window in his apartment that has a perfect view of the Stirling Junior High Tomcat's basketball court. He knew just what the team was missing. The problem was, it was nearly impossible to get a boy with cerebral palsy into a school, especially because it was the 1960's. Sam encounters lots of difficulties. He loses nearly everything, but is persistent in pulling himself out of the difficult times.
Opinion:
The book Window Boy is a touching tale about a boy who strives to get through life with his disability. It started out slow, but most good books I've read are that way. Once you get going you just can't stop. It is an amazing book and very touching. It's one of those books that just makes you think. You feel like you're there with Sam, fighting with him to be respected. Window Boy is overflowing with love and suspense with a sprinkle of humor here and there. It's a beautiful book that leaves you satisfied at the end. Overall, it is a fantastic book that I would recommend to all young adult readers who love happy endings.
