LitPick Review
Seven remarkable teen musicians, Ahmel, Aaron, Spencer, Dayshawn, Andre, Steven, and Dha'sean, in a Hamilton Hill Steel Drum Band travel together for the journey of a lifetime. Talent scouts from the famous Apollo Theater are arriving in the boys' hometown. After beating the competition there, the band goes to New York City to compete against the best amatuer acts in front of the Apollo Amatuer Night audiences. The competition got tougher, but using their unique sound, the friends impressed the crowds time after time. They eventually make it to the final face-off in December on the Super Top Dog show. Can the band drum their way to the top?
Opinion:
Steel Drumming at the Apollo was filled with the thrill of competition, the elation of winning, and the passion of pursuing a dream. You read about each band member's experience and their way to the top. Steel Drumming at the Apollo is a celebration of the power of music that will excite and unite many music lovers. The book shows that you can accomplish anything you want to. The book was OK. Others may enjoy it more than I did, though. I recommend this book to music lovers and any reader that wants to chase their dream.
