Being drum major(ette) is all that she thought it would be and much, much more. After becoming sick and tired of beauty pageants, Virginia Sauter tries out for the position of drum major(ette) at her current high school and actually wins. She is totally ecstatic about winning and being the first female drum major, except for the part where she has to share the title with Drew. A member of Drews family has been the drum major every year since his father started attending high school. Even though Drew is a gorgeous hunk, she realizes that maybe he isnt right for her after she comes in close contact with his stuck-up attitude and his wickedly evil girlfriend. Well, that is until she and Drew perform more than just the up-to-date, halftime salute.

Opinion:

Major Crush is a wonderful book that has a lot of drama included in it. Virginia seemed like a troubled young teen that didnt overly fit in. I thought it was cool how the author, Jennifer Echols, included in her novel a lot of characters that all had very different personalities. I wouldnt really want to be friends with the characters in the story though, because they seemed like a bunch of misfits who would just cause me trouble, and I didnt care for their personalities. The plot itself was pretty interesting and different, thanks to the many events and themes that took place, such as: Drew was very involved with the band but he was also a farm boy. I recommend Major Crush to teens 12 and up who are looking for an enjoyable and unique read.
