LitPick Review
Will Valerie ever tell her boyfriend, Prince George, that she recently dated her old crush behind his back or will she keep it a secret forever? On a winter break to Virginia to visit her lesbian mother, Val's longtime friends hook her up with her old crush from her previous school. Even though it wasn't serious, Valerie is self- conscious about telling her boyfriend because she is afraid of what might happen. After she gets home from school one day, her dad decides to take Val skiing and Prince Georg is invited. Once Val finds out that Georg was keeping her dad's new relationship a secret from her, their relationship takes an unexpected turn. Will they get their relationship back on track or will it be doomed forever?
Opinion:
I thought it was awesome how Valerie and her friends kept in touch through email; I loved reading their emails- they were really cool. Valerie was a pretty interesting character with a lot of different moods and all her friends had very different personalities from one another. The one thing that I didn't like the most about this book is that Val's parents got a divorce because her mom falls in love with another woman. I think the author, Niki Burnham, really should've picked a different reason for Val's parents to get a divorce. Do-Over is one of the novels in the Simon Pulse Romantic Comedies series that Niki Burnham wrote. This book is very disappointing compared to the other wonderful story she wrote called Scary Beautiful. I recommend Do-Over to teens, ages 13-18.
