Being drum major(ette) is all that she thought it would be and much, much more. After becoming sick and tired of beauty pageants, Virginia Sauter tries out for the position of drum major(ette) at her current high school and actually wins. She is totally ecstatic about winning and being the first female drum major, except for the part where she has to share the title with Drew. A member of Drews family has been the drum major every year since his father started attending high school.
