Mudd lives in a quiet little town and works at a mill. He lives with the town's blind prophesier, Shemnara, and his dad and sister. Mudd is fixing one of the gears in the mill when it catches on fire. A red dragon came out, swooping in the sky, lighting everything ablaze. Mudd, his dad and sister are in the process of driving the dragon away when the dragon turns and flies away of her own free will. Mudd gets a bad feeling, and runs back to his house and finds Shemnara is gone and the house is a mess; things are broken and scattered across the floor.
