A young boy named Vernon needs a lot of help if he wants to pass this school year. Vernon's friends make fun of and pull pranks on the single parent next door and her retarded son Ronald. They also call her crazy lady. The crazy lady, whose name is Maxine, introduces Vernon to a tutor who helps him raise his grades. The tutor tells him to help Maxine with some errands. While doing the errands Vernon gets close with Ronald and starts to take a liking to him. Ronald's teacher tells Ronald, Maxine, and Vernon that Ronald should do the Special Olympics.
