The main character gets caught at a party were drugs and alcohol are discovered. Her parents send her to a summer camp for "troubled teens," where she discovers that nothing is as it seems. She falls for two boys both misterious in their own ways. One linked to her past the other trying to hide his away. She grudgingly stays at camp trying to leave, not beleiving she's just as different as the rest. All the while her ghostly stalker fallows her trying to tell her the truth.
The main character starts out in a room writing about how she wishing she wasn't where she was. She has become the new representitive of the dragons of her country, the Quelda. For some this is a great honor, for most it is a fearful position. Once every nine to twelve months the dragons choose a girl and a boy from the families of their city. They must be the eldest and they must be virgins. The main character is terribly sad because she misses her friend whom she loves. She almost wishes he was there with her but she knows that if he was here with her he would die too.

Basically, FREEFALL is about a high school boy named Luke. He's a fencer, not the best student, and is looking for a college that will accept him. A new boy shows up and isn't being very nice to Luke's best friend, Hayden. (He's a fencer too). But it turns out he's does fencing as well. At this school, there is an unofficial initiation ceremony. The new fencers have to jump of a cliff into the lake. Luke and Hayden take Russell to the cliff. When Russell chickens out, he and Hayden get in an argument and Hayden ends up pushing Russell OFF THE CLIFF!
