SIX MINUTES WITH PV LUNDQVIST:
Today PV Lundqvist joins LitPick for Six Minutes with an Author! PV is the author of The Counterfeit Father and Not Just for Breakfast Anymore! PV likes his family, pot-bellied pigs and baseball, in that order.
How did you get started writing?
I was an only child for the first ten years of my life. I spent hours every day making up stories to entertain myself. Writing it down seemed like the most natural thing in the world to do.
Who influenced you?
Jack Gantos. Such a great writer and teacher. He once told me, don’t tell a story about a character, but through the character. I try never to forget that.
Do you have a favorite book/subject/character/setting?
I try to anchor all of my books in real life. As much as I enjoy books in fantastical settings, I find science to be all the magic I need in my books.
What advice do you have for someone who wants to be an author?
Write a story that only you could tell. That unique passion may be the best way to overcome the many obstacles to finding readers.
Where is your favorite place to write?
Wherever there’s quiet. Have laptop, will travel.
What else would you like to tell us?
I once worked at an agency that trained monkeys to assist disabled people. How cool is that? In my book, THE COUNTERFEIT FATHER, the main character is in a wheelchair and—you guessed it—has a monkey helping him.
Sort of.
Who knew monkeys have a will of their own?
PV, thank you for spending six minutes with LitPick! We’re looking forward to book two, Gang of Sleuths!
