SIX MINUTES WITH KAT DE FALLA:

Today author Kat de Falla joins LitPick for Six Minutes with an Author! Kat was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she learned to roller-skate, ride a banana seat bike, and love Shakespeare thanks to her high school English teacher. Four years at the UW-Madison wasn’t enough, so she returned to her beloved college town for her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and is happily employed as a retail pharmacist where she fills prescriptions and chats with her patients. She is married to her soulmate, classical guitarist Lee de Falla, and raising four kids together ala the Brady Bunch.

How did you get started writing?

I started writing poems as a third grader and then wrote my "autobiography" in seventh grade. The teacher laughed so hard reading it, she was crying. I was hooked! My English teacher in high school instilled my love of the Baird. After pharmacy school, I laid in wait for inspiration and I got it! One day at the pharmacy, a man came in scaring me half to death telling me "they were all around us." He inspired The Seer's Lover (The 7 Archangels Series) which I sold to The Wild Rose Press. And I haven't stopped writing since!

Who influenced you?

Shakespeare. I love how his words are weaved with some many levels of meanings. And yet light humor on top as frosting.

Do you have a favorite book/subject/character/setting?

I can speak to my own books...I love the setting of Costa Rica in The Seer's Lover. I love the character of Shane in Darkwalker. I love the idea of meeting a ghost in First Contact. And I love the spunk of my character Pea in Flying Mutant Zombie Rats.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to be an author?

If you can't not write (haha) - you are a writer. Keep at it. Never stop. Set aside time each day and let nothing/no one deter you!

Where is your favorite place to write?

With my feet up in a recliner...ahh!

What else would you like to tell us?

I would love everyone to know that I have a story for everyone who loves some paranormal! Angels and Demons - try The Seer's Lover. Ghosts - try First Contact. Zombies - try Flying Mutant Zombie Rats!

Thanks so much for having me!

Kat, thank you for spending six minutes with LitPick! You are the first pharmacist-author we have interviewed. What an exciting combination of careers!
