I was born in Riverside, California in March 1963 and named Diane Michelle Brewer, but because of life and changes that are too lengthy to explain, my name has evolved and I am now legally Diane Merrill Wigginton. I had one brother, David, thirteen months older than me, and we were inseparable as children. We were so close that we even developed our own language.
I have always been a very determined person, but it took me a long time to come to the conclusion that I wanted to take my desire to write seriously. I think that deep down, I knew that I always wanted to write, but I am like a lot of people out there, and I worried that I wasn’t good enough.
I was a single mother with 2 kids for many years. I worked long hours and tried to put what energy I had left over after work into my children. In 1998 I met and married, David Wigginton, and our small family of three grew to seven overnight. I was blessed with three stepsons. Then I was blessed again nine months later when our son Ethan was born. Suddenly I was the mother of 5 sons and 1 daughter.
When we moved to Sacramento in 2001 I began a daycare in my home and I was busy from sun up to sun down. In 2011, my only brother suddenly died in January of that year and 10 months later, in October, my father called to tell me that he had cancer. 2 months later, in early December, he died and I was left feeling as if the rug had been pulled out from under me. It took me a year of soul searching to come to grips with my loss. It was then that I realized life was short to wait for the right time to follow my dream, and I wasn't getting any younger.
Shortly after my 50th birthday, I decided that I would see if I had what it took to write a novel. I sat down one day and started writing and discovered something about myself that I never knew before. I had a natural talent for spinning a story. That book was ‘Angelina's Secret,’ and it took me 6 months to write. Then, there was the rewrite and I kept going, and before I knew it, I had 3 books in my series and people really enjoyed reading them.
I’ve won a Benjamin Frankly Award for Angelina’s Secret and The Most Inspired Author for 2017, from International Writers Inspiring Change for my Jeweled Dagger Series. I am very proud of the wonderful reviews and hope to spread the word about my series.
I retired from daycare at the end of April 2017, and have been working on two new manuscripts and promoting my series. I researched and decided to start my own publishing label, Jeweled Dagger Publishing. Did I mention that I wrote all three books while working full-time?
In February 2018 we sold our home in Sacramento, said goodbye to our friends, and moved to Kalispell, Montana, forty-five minutes from Glacier National Park. I love cooking, baking, and being outdoors, so living in the mountains is a dream come true. We spend a lot of time with grandkids, and I’m still writing. My last suspense/romance novel won ten awards. My next suspense/romance novel is being edited and I have even written my first children’s book and it is due to be released on February 6, 2024.
Life is amazing, and God has blessed me with an abundance, to be sure.
