SIX MINUTES WITH CYCI CADE:

Joining LitPick for Six Minutes with an Author is Cyci Cade! Cyci is a writer and blogger. She writes urban fantasy and fiction novels for young adults. She is the author of Tut Reborn, Dragon Princes series (coming soon), Stargate series (coming soon), and the short stories “Perhaps Love,” “The Boys and the Dragon,” and “Son of Egypt.”

How did you get started writing?

When I was in second grade I used to write some short stories; I liked it very much, but I let it go. After college, I started writing articles for blogs, magazines and newspapers; then, I decided to write a book. After the first trilogy, I couldn’t stop writing.

Who influenced you?

At the beginning, my parents; they used to read fantasy and fiction novels and buy comics and books. I enjoyed those moments, and as I grew up, the books became an important part of my life. Later, authors like Dan Brown and Philip Pullman made me want to do something else; reading wasn´t enough anymore. Becoming a writer was inevitable.

Do you have a favorite book/subject/character/setting?

My favorite book is Deception Point by Dan Brown; I couldn’t stop reading it. I like the way Dan Brown keeps the story moving forward, guides you through the plot, and makes you get involved with the characters.

I love fantasy and science fiction novels, stories that give my imagination wings to fly and create a new magical world.

I can’t choose a character or setting because there are so many wonderful books, but I’ll mention two characters: Jace (The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare) because I like his bad-boy side and Haden (“Into the Dark” series by Bree Despain) because he is very funny and virile.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to be an author?

Do your best. Never give up. Start a blog, write articles for other blogs and magazines, build your platform. It is very hard, but there are many ways to publish a book and excellent professionals to help you.

Where is your favorite place to write?

I have a home-office where I spend a great part of my day. I prefer quiet places to work on my projects, to focus on the story and let it flow. But I also write when I am in other places; the locale doesn’t disturb me.

What else would you like to tell us?

The TV Series Tut fascinated and inspired me to write Tut Reborn. I wanted Tutankhamun to have a different ending and I thought, why not? Why not? I love mythology and I mixed some facts of Tutankhamun´s life with mythology and fantasy. I enjoyed writing this book very much and I hope the readers like it too.
