LitPick Review
The book starts off with a regular family that lives on a farm. A neighbor hurts his arm and they both need to get help to run their farms which were their livelihoods. Jacob, who was once a slave, came to help with the farm to earn enough money to free his family. Some people did not like that. (Slaves had just been freed.) The family has a hard time with some people in town that will threaten their very lives. Will Jacob’s family ever be free?
Opinion:
This was a great book! It was a book about a family that has problems during the civil war. I also liked how it is in the form of a diary; I think that was a cool idea. Background knowledge in this story really fit it together for a great story. I like how the story folded together throughout the book. I would recommend this book to others because of the excitement, the great plot, and the way it is also like a regular family today.
