Burn Out by Kristi Helvig was an interesting tale about events after the end of the world.  The sun has turned into a super giant thousands of years earlier than predicted leaving humans technologically bare.  With violent night storms during the night, and with the vicious sun by day, Tora is stuck in her shelter for months, living all alone after her family has perished.  Her Father, who was once a weapons engineer, has left Tora a whole arsenal for her to protect. Markus, a looter who was once her Father’s friend, comes to Tora demanding that she hand over the weapons she has been sworn to protect.  Backup is called, and Tora’s world is turned upside down; especially when one of the backup men is the young and dashing James.

Opinion:

I feel that Helvig needs to appeal to a younger audience.  Burn Out is highly predictable, and the topic is overwritten.  While I did enjoy reading this book, I will not be one to purchase the second book.
