Puff, squire to Lord Pattercloud, is a small young squirrel who loves food. He is always getting into trouble. Luckily for him, Lord Pattercloud is kind and understanding. He patiently trains Puff to fight, but the battle is uphill. Puff believes he is simply too small to fight. Besides, he thinks it will be a long time before he has to fight, but what if he is wrong? The time is approaching when the three clans of the forest must fight. Puff and Lord Pattercloud belong to Clan Grey. The other peaceful clan is Clan Brown. Clan Black, on the other hand, is dangerous. The three clans each choose a representative to fight for them. Lord Pattercloud is chosen for Clan Grey, but will circumstances allow him to fight?

Opinion:

I thoroughly enjoyed The Squirrel Squire. It is an exciting page turner, but it allows you to pick up right again where you stopped. The plot and wording is great for younger kids, but the amount of death and bloodshed might not be appropriate for kids under second or third grade. It is a motivating book that shows how important it is to use your abilities. Erik DeLeo shows how your stature should not hold you back from doing your best. The Squirrel Squire is a powerful book, and each and every person should read one like it at least once in his or her lifetime.
