D.E. Night’s The Crowns of Croswald is the magical tale of Ivy Lovely. Hidden behind an enchanted boundary for sixteen years, powers that she never knew she had are awakened when she crosses that border. She finds her way to the Halls of Ivy, a school for children like Ivy to master their magic and learn to control the power of Croswald’s powerful gems. She has many adventures there, but when Ivy’s life and her magic along with it are threatened by a mysterious force, she scrambles to unearth her history and save Croswald before the truth vanishes forever.
In my opinion, The Crowns of Croswald is a very enjoyable book, filled with hope, sadness and even a few laughs. Ivy’s life starting behind a magic blocking barrier and her adventures at the Halls of Ivy are bursting with so many ups and downs. From Scaldrons to school bullies, and more, her adventures are so much fun to read about. I would recommend this book to children around my age: nine, ten, and maybe eleven. Although it is a pretty easy read, I think that the reader needs to be into genres such as fiction, fantasy, and mystery. There is nothing about it that says non-fiction, historical fiction, or graphic novel so if you're into that type of book, I wouldn’t recommend it. For me, it was a total must-read page turner!
