Ann Rinaldi writes a lot of very good historical fiction books that tell history through the eyes of a fictional character. This is a shorter one about a girl who lives in Hagerstown, Maryland during the Civil War. Although she tries to stay neutral during the war, in the end she does something that saves the day for her community.

This book is about a girl who has never had to really be herself. She has an older brother who always gets her into the good social events and two best friends who helped her through life. Everything was as it was until her two best friends turn into punk posers and change completely. Jessie begins to start look for new friends and finds people who she never would of assoicated with before. She has to decide whether to stick with her new nerd friends or her old cool friends.

She has to figure everything out by her self. To make things even harder for her, about 90% of the magical community wants to kill her. (including the actually all powerful god Apollo) This book has everything, from exciting magical chases, to very hot boys, to vampires. Come on, who doesn't want to read this book!!
